The Electric Sons made the trek all the way from Atlanta just to chill on Sonny’s Porch with us. Despite the dark skies that kept getting darker, the band unloaded and setup for a quick set while throwing back some PBR’s with us.
What do you get when you combine 1970s Zambian rock legends, freakishly talented younger musicians from Europe, USA and Zambia and an old beach shack porch? You get a night to remember.
Earlier this month, we packed up our cowboy boots and a ten-gallon hat (OK, so we borrowed them from a friend), and headed out to Austin, TX for its annual SXSW festival.
The Mattson 2 is a mixture of sonic ingredients including (but not limited to) traditional jazz, surf, psychedelic, and indie. And over the years, their songs have effortlessly made their way onto our mix tapes, transitioned to burned CD’s we made for our friends, and now take their rightful place onto pretty much every “good vibes” playlist we have saved on Spotify. We’re unabashedly ride or die fans.
We honestly didn’t know too much about these guys when we first heard they were comin’ into town. When they showed up to our Cocoa Beach office, they just seemed like three humble dudes from Hawaii who smiled a lot and were apparently really talented musicians.
